South Coast - Katla Ice Cave 1/28 South Coast Iceland & Katla Ice Cave Embark on a stunning adventure along Iceland’s breathtaking South Coast, a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts. This private tour offers a personalized experience with a dedicated driver-guide, taking you through some of the country’s most picturesque landscapes, stretching all the way to the charming village of Vík, known for its towering bird cliffs. The tour includes Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, and the Katla Ice Cave Super Jeep Tour. Explore the Katla Ice Cave, a natural wonder formed by glacial and volcanic forces. Tour Highlights Seljalandsfoss Waterfall: One of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss is unique because you can walk behind it for a full 360-degree view. Originating from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, this waterfall offers a rare opportunity to experience nature up close. Please bring a raincoat or waterproof jacket if you plan to walk behind the falls. Please note that this may not be possible in winter due to icy conditions. Skógafoss Waterfall: Another stunning waterfall, standing 60 meters tall and 25 meters wide. Its powerful flow creates mist that often forms rainbows on sunny days. Visitors can climb the stairs next to the waterfall for panoramic views or stand at the base to experience its immense force. Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach: Visit the dramatic Reynisfjara beach, famous for its black volcanic sands, the towering Reynisdrangar rock formations, and unique columnar basalt cliffs. While the beach is mesmerizing, it can also be dangerous due to strong waves, so we advise all guests to follow safety guidelines and keep a safe distance from the ocean. South Coast Villages: Pass through the charming villages of Hvolsvöllur, Hella, and Vík, where you’ll experience the quieter, rural side of Iceland, surrounded by vast farmlands and scenic mountains. Lunch in Vík: Enjoy lunch in Vík, where you can soak in the beauty of this small, picturesque village nestled between cliffs and the sea. Katla Ice Cave Tour: Experience the magic of a natural ice cave with a guided tour inside the Katla Ice Cave, located near Vík. This extraordinary adventure takes you to a stunning glacier cave formed by the Kötlujökull glacier, an outlet of the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Equipped with safety gear, you’ll explore the mesmerizing blue and black ice formations, created by centuries of volcanic activity and glacial movement. The journey to the cave is an adventure in itself, as visitors are transported in specially modified super jeeps designed to handle Iceland’s rugged and icy terrain. These powerful vehicles ensure a safe and thrilling ride across glacial rivers and rough landscapes, offering an authentic off-road experience. Please Note! Katla Ice Cave tour is a group tour provided by a reliable third-party provider. Ice cave is a natural phenomenon that forms within glaciers as meltwater carves tunnels and chambers through the ice. These caves are constantly changing due to shifting ice, temperature fluctuations, and seasonal melting, making each visit a unique experience. Meeting point for Katla Ice Cave is in Vík Town after lunch. Your private driver will wait for you while you enjoy the Katla Super Jeep Ice Cave Tour and will then take you back to Reykjavík. Your private driver will pick you up at you preferred location in a luxurious vehicle. The waterfall is split in two with a beautiful pond in front and surrounded by extraordinary basalt rock formations, making this spot a beautiful haven. Háifoss In South-Iceland on the edge of the highland, you will find the third highest waterfall in Iceland, (not counting the waterfalls found in Mosárjökull glacier recently). This waterfall is called Háifoss waterfall or the Tall Falls. Háifoss, which is 122 meters high is situated in Fossá river, which is a spring water tributary of the glacial river Þjórsá, Iceland's longest river. Granni waterfall (Neighbour), is almost next to Háifoss, and this pair of waterfalls make for one of the most beautiful sights I have seen in Iceland. Standing above these two waterfalls is like looking at a painting or a panoramic photo. It is absolutely breathtaking. The glacial river Þjórsá runs through Þjórsárdalur valley and its tributary, Fossá, has created a deep gorge where these two waterfalls cascade down making this part totally different from the flat planes where Þjórsá river runs south of Fossá river.
